"The Magicians" is a fantasy television series based on a trilogy of books written by author Lev Grossman. The show follows Quentin Coldwater, a college-aged introvert who is accepted at Brakebills University, a school of magic in upstate New York. Once there, he bands together with a group of other students to battle against a menacing villain known as the Beast. Meanwhile, Quentin's childhood friend Julia is rejected from Brakebills and sets off on a journey to discover her own magical powers.
