Khalid, Mahmoud, and Subhi are all volunteers who founded the White Helmets, an aid group that assists victims of the Syrian Civil War in the city of Aleppo. It is five years into the war and most of the residents of Aleppo have fled in search of safety. Those who remain face an everyday struggle simply to stay alive, find food, and heal from their injuries. The White Helmets are determined to stay and help the survivors.
