A young and ambitious lawyer, Maia, who works at Lockhart, Deckler, Gussman, Lee, Lyman, Gilbert-Lurie, Kagan, Tannebaum, & Associates must deal with ridicule and employment termination after the stunning revelation that her father had tricked many people into giving him money in a ponzi scheme. The scam doesn't just destroy her savings and upend her life, but it also damages the savings and reputation of her godmother Diane Lockhart. An old employee, Luca Quinn, who works at Reddick, Boseman, & Kolstad, and his bosses see an opportunity to gain an excellent lawyer, Diane, for very little money. Their firm works primarily on cases featuring police brutality, and they need Diane's skill in the court room. Diane agrees on one condition: They must also give Maia a job.
