Captive State takes place in Chicago almost a decade after a group of extraterrestrials had invaded the city. These extraterrestrials have not just invaded the city, though. They have asserted an authoritarian rule over all of the city's inhabitants. Some of the residents have turned into collaborators with the invaders. However, others have bonded together to form a group of dissidents. These dissidents are not going to cower to the forces that the extraterrestrials try to inflict on anyone who tries to avoid their rule. On the other side, though, the extraterrestrials and their collaborators refuse to let anyone escape.
