Sheltered James (Kyle Mooney) grew up in an underground bunker with little contact with the outside world. During his days underground, he grew into a gentle man-child with a fixation on the children's show Brigsby Bear. The show's abrupt cancellation throws James' life into a tailspin. He is now on a mission to create his own version of the show while navigating through a world that is completely foreign to him.
