Set in the late 1850s, Underground tells the story of seven slaves who are on the run after escaping the Macon plantation where they live and work. As their journey north towards freedom continues, they find themselves struggling more to survive and avoid being captured. The "Macon 7," as they are known, are being pursued by a bounty hunter hired to catch them and illegal slave traders looking to sell them back into slavery. Along the way, they discover the beginnings of the Underground Railroad, and the people who risk their own lives to get runaway slaves to safety.
