Paterson is a bus driver whose life is built on routine. He gets up in his Paterson, New Jersey home and drives the city streets on the same route every day, an observer of the lives of the people he ferries from place to place. When his shift is over, he goes home to wife and writes poetry. While he embraces this routine wholeheartedly, his wife leads a life born of change, always taking on new projects. Though the two seem completely different, their love and support for one another solidifies their relationship.
