7.9In 1909, the German scientist Theodor Koch-Grunberg travels deep into the Amazon Rainforest in search of the yakruna, a rare and sacred plant. His guide for the voyage is a young shaman named Karamakate, the last survivor of a mysterious tribe. An older Karamakate also guides American Richard Evans Schultes during a 1940 expedition looking for the same plant. Although both journeys contain intrigues and apparent betrayals, Karamakate and the scientists develop lifelong bonds during their adventures.
