Two hundred years in the future, the solar system has been fully colonized. But not all is well. Tension exists between Earth and the colonists on Mars. When tragedy strikes the freighter Canterbury, the threat of war looms over the two planets. Chrisjen Avasarala, a representative from the United Nations, is assigned to prevent a conflict at all costs. Meanwhile, Detective Josephus Miller is assigned to find a missing woman. He soon learns that the missing woman and the freighter incident are linked to a vast conspiracy that threatens to destabilize the entire solar system.
