Each day, Frankie and Mike Heck are faced with the challenge of taking care of three unique kids with little money and a house that's falling apart. Their only daughter Sue is unrealistically optimistic and naive. Axl is their oldest smart-mouth son who thinks he's the greatest, and Brick is their youngest son who is very intelligent, an avid reader and has many odd quirks. Mike works in a quarry, and Frankie finds herself changing careers after she's fired from a car dealership. But no matter what challenges this family faces, they do so in unique and humorous ways.
