A young American woman named Greta is shaken when she accepts a job as a nanny for an English family because she realizes the boy she is suppose to care for is a life-size doll. Much to her amazement, the family treats the doll just like a real child. The family does this as a way to deal with the actual lost of their son who died 20 years ago. After a list of strict rules are violated, and a few upsetting events take place, Greta begins living a nightmare where she starts wondering if the doll is really alive.
