Old friends Fred and Mick vacation together in the Alps. Although Fred has retired from his former career as a musician, Mick continues to write a screenplay he hopes will be his magnum opus. The two reflect upon the lives of their children and of the strangers they encounter at the hotel in which they are staying. Despite Fred's reluctance to conduct an orchestra one final time, he may let himself be convinced.
