Extant is about a beautiful geneticist-astronaut goes into space for thirteen months. She interacts with an entity on board the spacecraft who assumes the guise of a former earthly lover killed in a car accident. She was also pregnant at the time of the car accident and still mourns the loss of her child. She becomes pregnant in space, although she has been unable to conceive on earth since the accident. The fetus is mysteriously delivered before she gives birth after her return to a current husband and "humanic" robot child. Intrigue and lies of the astronaut's employer create suspense as viewers learn about the space-child's destructive potential.
