Commander Tom Chandler is ordered to take zoologist Rachel Scott to the Arctic. They are ordered to stay off communications while completing their mission. When the trip begins to try his patience, he calls the White House where he's informed that her mission is a top priority. When the Russians try to attack the doctor, Chandler decides to defy orders and return home. Unfortunately, he finds out that the world has been in the grip of a pandemic, and Dr. Scott is the only hope for the future of the entire world.
