Ryan starts out very depressed, believing that he is not going anywhere in his life. He plans to commit suicide, but in the middle of all of this, his neighbor asked him to watch his dog, Wilfred. Ryan turns out to be the only person who is able to see this dog not as a dog, but as a man wearing a dog suit. The dog talks to him as well. Ryan and Wilfred end up bonding, and through all of the interesting situations they experience together, Wilfred teaches Ryan a great deal about many of the facets of humanity.
