The sheriff for a small town south of San Francisco, Paul Del Moral is on his way home when he accidentally hits a pedestrian. However, before the event can be investigated, the Japanese man mysteriously disappears from the hospital, leaving no trace that he was ever there. Meanwhile, Japanese mystery author Aki Akahori is on a trip to San Francisco to escape the press tour for her newest book. While in San Francisco, she begins a love affair with a mysterious Japanese traveler from Reno. Her lover soon disappears from the hotel, however, leaving behind only his suitcase and unanswered questions. Soon, the novelist and the sheriff team up to solve the mystery surrounding the man from Reno.
