Three decades into the future, the Earth has changed quite a bit from what it once was. The arrival of numerous alien species seeking new homes has significantly transformed not only the planet?s physical landscape, but also the world?s social and political relationships as humans must struggle to coexist with the invaders. When a human named Joshua Nolan and his adopted charge, a female alien called Irisa, arrive in the town of Defiance (what was once St. Louis), a series of events begins to transpire that could disrupt the delicate balance between human and alien and endanger the entire town. While the residents hope desperately for a peace that may already be too far gone in the midst of strained relationships and violent conflict, they must struggle with how far they are willing to go in order to survive, coexist, and preserve any remnants of the Earth they once knew.
