When Martin Bohm's wife perished in the twin towers on September 11, 2001, a part of him died that day as well. Unable to fully cope with losing his love, Martin fumbles from job to job while trying to care for his son Jake. Jake does not speak and does not like to be touched, which makes it difficult for Martin to show affection for the only family he has left. Jake also has a remarkable ability to see patterns in the world, especially in numbers. Through Jake's remarkable mind, Martin learns to see the balance in the world and is able to help random strangers throughout the world in dealing with their problems, sometimes even without realizing it. The more Martin helps others, while incurring the wrath of Child Protective Services for not caring for his son more closely, the more he realizes that there is a bigger, grander puzzle that he and Jake must figure out before it is too late.
