Ted Mosby decides to tell his children the story about how he met their mother. Although the family lives in the year 2030, he turns back the hands of time to tell the story of how he thought a news reporter was going to be the person he spent the rest of his life with. He searches for his soul mate with the help of some friends. Barney, a womanizing sort of man, wants nothing more than to convince Mosby that he should stay wild and single. The children already know all of the people who played a role in how their father met their mother. The kids call them aunts and uncles.
