After his wife's death, John Winchester devotes his life to hunting supernatural monsters. He raises Sam and Dean, his young sons, on the road and teaches them to be hunters as well. Only Dean embraces this calling. Sam dreams of escaping from this dangerous way of life and living like a normal person. He enters college and tries to put his strange childhood behind him. When John goes missing, however, the two brothers must team up to find him. Their search is complicated by family secrets and deadly supernatural plots. The brothers' search for their missing father opens up an entire world of mysteries. Sam and Dean embark on a journey around the United States to fight ghosts, monsters and other creatures of legend while investigating family secrets. In the course of their odyssey, they encounter werewolves, vampires, spirits, demons, gods, witches, angels, cursed objects and other legendary creatures and items. Eventually, they become entangled in a war between angels and demons. Through it all, the bond between the brothers is both a great strength and a frightening weakness.
