Inspired by the true story of a Latino high school from Southern California, McFarland is the story of a fledgling track team who became unlikely nine-time champions. Set in 1987, McFarland follows track coach Jim White to an almost all Latino high school where he struggles to develop relationships with his students. It isn't until Coach White takes note of some of his students' exceptional running abilities that they find common ground and begin to experience success on the track. The team of runners navigates the tumultuous social climate of the late 1980's to form both a championship cross-country team and a legacy of overcoming challenges.
