Six children living with their alcoholic father is the basis of the television series Shameless. The Gallagher kids have learned to pretty much cope on their own as dad tends to disappear for weeks, sometimes months, at a time. The series follows the adventures of the six children and how they survive from day to day. When the dad disappears, the eldest daughter is the one who does her best to hold the family together by giving up school and taking odd, sometimes unique, jobs. Shameless covers a variety of topics including drug use, alcoholism, infertility, being gay as a teen, and general teen angst.
