Andy and Jimmy live in a small town along Australia's beautiful, rugged coast in the early '70s. Andy has a desire to leave behind his life of petty crime and working in a factory. He joins forces with Jimmy, his younger brother, who is a surf prodigy, but wayward. The boys' mother, Kat, uses her professional skills as a seamstress to with the boys to fashion a special Drift wet suits along with shorter surfboards. Eventually, the small home-based business gains tremendous popularity among the local surfer scene, but is met with trouble as a local drug-dealing biker gang threatens its success. The brothers are also at odds with the views of their conservative town. Nevertheless, the business grows into the multi-million dollar surfing industry that is known today.
