The Hecks are a middle-class family who struggle through money woes, constant house repairs and kids who have their own unique set of problems. Frankie is a mom who worked at a car dealership until she got fired. Mike is the level-headed father who doesn't sugar coat their problems. The Hecks have three kids Axl, Sue and Brick. Axl is their oldest son. He lacks ambition and loves to irritate his sister Sue. She is a quirky girl who is overly optimistic, even when the worst things happen to her. Brick is their intelligent youngest child. It's his whispering to himself and other odd behavior that makes him socially awkward. The Hecks get through their daily troubles with comical solutions that somehow bring their family closer together.
