Fairly Legal follows the adventures of Kate Reed, whose lawyer father recently passed away. Prior to his death she practiced law, but left the courtroom to work at the family's elite San Fransisco firm as a mediator instead. Her father left the law-firm to Kate and her step-mother, who often fail to see eye-to-eye on how they should run the struggling firm. Kate's knowledge of law and vast experience in the courtroom makes her an ideal conflict mediator in almost all the cases that come her way. In addition to the cases she mediates, the show includes much of Kate's personal life--which happens to be rife with conflicts she has a harder time resolving.
