Ben Matlock, the title character of the courtroom drama Matlock, an Atlanta widower and Harvard graduate uses his folksy charm and critical temper to pull confessions in dramatic fashion from perpetrators feigning innocence. Thrifty and fond of hot dogs, Matlock would visit crime scenes searching for overlooked clues, and would force confessions, generally of murder, from the perpetrators. His iconic grey suit, and matching Ford Crown Victory became American TV icon, and provided comic relief (along with the hot dogs). His trusty side kicks, including daughter Charlene, consist of stock market savant Charlie Hudson, and various law students and doctors. He has a pleasant and cordial relationship with courtroom adversary prosecutor Julie March.
