Burn Notice tells the story of discredited spy Michael Weston. The title draws its name from the concept of a burn notice, a notice issued by an intelligence agency. After the issuance of the burn notice on Weston he becomes virtually non-existent, with no record of him ever having existed anywhere in the world. The story opens with Weston screwing up a covert operation, and ending up alone without any contact with his normal intelligence contacts in Miami. Weston becomes obsessed with finding out who ordered the burn notice against him, and so he beings working as a private investigator to finance himself while living in Miami. Joined by his best friend Sam and his ex-girlfriend Fiona, Weston goes toe to toe with a variety of criminals including con artists, rapists, and murderers, all while trying to piece together how he got burnt.
