Dido Elizabeth Belle is caught between the two worlds of privilege and prejudice. Though cared for by her great uncle, Lord Mansfield, with all of the privileges of the upper class, she is shunned by noble society because she is of mixed race and an illegitimate child of a reckless admiral. She can only watch as her cousin is relentless courted by young men. Heartbroken, she despairs that she will never find the love who will accept her as she is. Yet, she meets an idealist young man who has dreams of changing British society. With his help, Belle becomes instrumental in helping her great uncle become Lord Chief Justice and abolishing slavery in the land.
