In 1876, Sheriff Roy Pulsipher, an Old West peacekeeper, was very much alive when he entered a shootout with a gang of outlaws. He's not happy to discover shortly after that he exited the fight as one of the dead. When the Rest In Peace Department (R.I.P.D.) recruits Roy for a job on earth protecting the living from spirits who haven't moved on, he's given a new opportunity to live again and try to get revenge. Yet, Roy soon discovers that the world is far more important than his personal vendetta after a literal gate to hell opens up in Red Creek's mining town.
