While a small crew of astronauts and scientists are living on a space station, a disaster strikes Earth, covering the planet in a toxic fog that wipes out most of humanity. After dealing with the initial shock, a debate immediately ensues about what this small enclave should do. Should they simply stay where they are and potentially ride out the catastrophe, or do they have an obligation to face the risk of returning to Earth and using their knowledge to aid the tiny number of survivors?
