Themes of family, loss, illness, and love are explored in this story of a recently-released ex-con desperate to help his dying mother. As soon as Billy Walker steps out of prison after seven years for involuntary manslaughter, he heads straight home to El Paso and his mother. Unbeknownst to Billy, his mom has been suffering from liver failure and has very little time left. While she has made the organ recipient list, she is very low down in line. Devoted to the one person who has always loved him, Billy turns to illegal means to help her regardless of consequences.
