A young boy named Gunner Boone becomes interested in searching for a supernatural figure known as The Water Man when he learns that his mother has been diagnosed with having leukemia. In a desperate attempt to try to save his mother's life, Gunner embarks on an adventurous journey to look for this mysterious being who is said to be able to bring humans and animals back from the dead. A girl named Jo Riley, who has been giving him information about the man's magical healing powers, accompanies him on his quest to find him in the woods, where he is known to live.
