In this sequel to the hit 16-bit platformer, Sonic's nemesis Metal Robotnik is back, this time in the form of a giant mechanical worm intent on world domination. The evil scientist has built a new set of seven deadly robotic animals and has scattered them across picturesque locations around the planet Mobius for Sonic to contend with. In the first installment, Sonic is confronted with his arch-nemesis Knuckles the Echidna, who has adopted a more cooperative role in this adventure than his fellow character in the previous title. Sonic is joined by Miles "Tails" Prower, a young boy whose hyperactive personality provides the functional flying capability.
