Mara Carlyle is a high school senior who leads a pretty normal life. She has a boyfriend. She hangs out with friends. Everything is going smoothly until her world turns upside down... Mara's parents have often told her how hard life was back in their day. Well, they can't make that claim any longer after several of her classmates' heads spontaneously exploded. When Mara's boyfriend dies, she and loner Dylan Hovemeyer hang out more and eventually fall in love. Yet, the chance of death by sudden head popping increases daily. When the government places the remaining students in quarantine, the two young lovers must learn how to cope with the horror and also live each day as if it is literally going to be their last.
