Chad Buckley can't shake his loneliness. He's passionate about horror movies and has invested a lot of time and energy into work at a horror-focused video store. The only reprieve from his loneliness has been one regular customer named Sam. Chad and Sam fill the days with arguments about various topics related to the genre. When someone applies to work at the store, Chad does everything he can through a series of examples to teach his new employee the rules that every person must know when dealing with horror tropes. Yet, not everything in the store is what it seems. The situation at the store might just match one or more of those ridiculous tropes... The new employee has a secret. Chad has one as well.
