In a modern Wild West amusement park owned by mega corporation Delos Inc., wealthy guests or "newcomers" enjoy the perks of living out choose-your-own-adventure fantasies with life-like androids known as "hosts." The park caters to everyone. Newcomers can wear white or black hats. They can settle for merely exploring the environment or living out their darkest desires. Dr. Robert Ford, the man who created the hosts, also has dreams and fantasies. The board of directors at Delos fear the god-like control he has not only over his creations, but also over real people. They also greedily hope to take something that Ford has never allowed them to access: data recorded from the hosts interactions with the guests. The park is a marketing gold mine. In the midst of this power struggle, strange things are also starting to occur. The hosts act erratically. The staff face growing confusion and worry that something new to the real world is evolving inside of the park.
