Bartle and Murph are only 21 and 18 respectively when they serve in the Iraq War. They are commanded by the older Sergeant Sterling, who has baggage of his own. Bartle made a promise to Murph's mother before he and Murph were deployed. He needs to figure out if he can keep that promise in the face of the horrors of war, especially when he returns and finds himself irreversibly changed.
