An all girls team of high school dancers try to achieve success while dealing with the complicated struggles that come not only from being teenagers, but also from living in the inner city of Baltimore. Each of the girls comes from a family where no one has ever attended or graduated from college. In a city that is often a place of violence and suffering, their goals to win a step dance championship and gain a higher education seem almost out of reach. Yet together with help from family members and mentors, they manage to make their dreams a reality.
