The DiMeo family moves into a run-down house in an otherwise wealthy neighborhood in order to send their son JJ, who has cerebral palsy, to school. JJ communicates by wearing headgear fitted with a laser pointer, which he points at a board attached to his wheelchair to indicate words, letter, and numbers. At his new school, JJ now has an aide ? the school groundskeeper ? who helps him communicate with his teachers and classmates. While the DiMeo family certainly has their share of difficulties, they are excellent at handling them and only grow stronger.
