After the death of his mother from an overdose, 17-year-old Joshua Cody, a.k.a. J., finds himself suddenly thrust into a seedy criminal world and crazy, dysfunctional family when he's forced to move in with his grandmother Janine Cody, a.k.a. Smurf, and his Southern California relatives. J. learns that the entire clan, which is made up of his uncles and grandmother, are thieves who take on high payout and equally high adrenaline jobs. Smurf acts slightly incestuous toward all of her sons and maintains a strong emotional and psychological hold on them. J. must decide if he's in or he's out.
