Piper Chapman is living an ordinary life when a youthful drug crime comes back to haunt her. Her ex-girlfriend had coughed up her name as part of a deal, and now Piper is looking at several years in Litchfield Penitentiary. Her fish-out-of-water experience in a women's prison is only the beginning of her story, however, as she makes friends and enemies alike with the diverse group of inmates that comprise her new world. To make matters worse, she still has to deal with her complicated feelings for her ex-girlfriend... who winds up just down the hall in the same prison.
