Howard Wakefield, a successful lawyer living in the suburbs, retreats to his attic following a nervous breakdown, seeming to disappear to his wife and children. He justifies this to himself with the belief that he hasn't truly left his family, despite detaching from them altogether. He continues to observe them through a window from his hideout. However, he will need to decide what is truly most important to him and what is the best for his family. To do this he must confront his own personal demons as well as the people in his life who care about him.
