Frank Gallagher is an alcoholic who spends a good chunk of his life passed out. He's been the only parent to six kids for a while, ever since their mother took off without a trace. His daughter Fiona shoulders most of the burden of caring for the family, including her drunk and disorderly dad. Each of the kids in the family has issues, from Ian, who is just discovering that he is gay, to thieving Debbie and Carl, who gets a kick out of setting things on fire. Keeping these kids out of trouble is a full-time job for Fiona.
