Linguistics professor Alice Howland is the happily married mother of three adult children when she suddenly can't remember a word while teaching a university class. Over the ensuing weeks, more words disappear from her memory and, to her horror, she can't remember where she is on her daily jog one morning. Eventually, Alice discovers her family has a long history of Alzheimer's and doctors tell her that she, too, has the disease. Alice, her husband and her children attempt to maintain their bonds with each other as her memory fades.
