Psych is a detective comedy-drama series. Shawn Spencer, freelance consultant for the Santa Barbara, California police pretends to be a psychic. However, it is keen observation skills and exceptional memory that makes him appear to be a seer. Gus Guster, his childhood friend and business partner is also a pharmaceutical salesman. Episodes begin with a flashback to Shawn and Gus's childhood in which they are taught a lesson by Shawn's father, a law enforcement officer. Shawn becomes known as a psychic after he calls in tips for crimes he sees on the news, helping police to solve dozens of cases. In the beginning, police become suspicious and theorize that Shawn is working on the "inside" and arrest him as a suspect. That is when Shawn must pretend he is a psychic. He is warned that if he is "faking it" he will be prosecuted. Adept at solving crimes and an asset to the police force, he forms a physic detective agency. Episodes involve himself and Gus riding around in "The Blueberry", a Toyota Echo. Juliet, a junior detective is his love interest who finds out later in the series that he is not really a psychic.
