Chris is a lifelong friend of Adam, who is Jewish. Since Chris is a gentile, he decides that it would be a good idea to get Adam's help in pretending to be Jewish so that he can win the love of a Jewish woman named Allison. He is attracted to Allison for many reasons, one of which is that she has a more forceful personality than he does, so he is hoping that once they get married, he won't have to make any decisions for himself anymore. Meanwhile, Adam enlists Chris's aid in helping him figure out what to do about his impending wedding to a woman he does not love. With Adam's assistance, Chris soon is able to navigate nimbly through the rituals of Judaism, though he isn't sure how long he can keep Allison and her family in the dark. He fears that at some point, the truth will have to come out, and it could get messy. Meanwhile, Adam grows closer and closer to a nervous breakdown as his wedding to Hannah approaches, and none of Chris's help seems to be gaining him the peace of mind that he so desperately seeks.
