Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, known as SVU for short, tells the story of New York Cities' criminal investigation unit in charge of handling sex crimes. The story follows a number of detectives, although mainly throughout most of the series it follows two partners most prominently: Detective Elliot Stabler and Detective Olivia Benson. Elliot, a family man, and Olivia herself the product of rape, are both deeply invested in investigating and prosecuting offenders who engage in sex crimes. They're joined by a number of other investigators, like Detective John Munch and Fin Tutuola. Like other Law & Order series however the investigative aspect is only half the story, with the remainder of the episode devoted to the criminal prosecution as led by a diverse array of assistant district attorneys.
