Dr. Zoe Hart has spent her life planning to follow in her father's footsteps to become a cardiothoracic surgeon in New York. Her plans are derailed when she is not offered a spot in the program because she lacks people skills. Zoe grudgingly travels to Bluebell, Alabama to work on her bedside manner. She forms a quick friendship with the mayor who encourages her to learn about the traditions and residents of the quirky small town. In her personal life, she finds herself torn between town golden boy, George, and her rough around the edges neighbor Wade. During her quest to learn about people, she is also learning about herself and finds it increasingly more difficult to decide whether she belongs in Bluebell or New York.
