Madea, the elderly but sassy matriarch of a large family, is convinced by a friend to join her for Christmas in a small town. Her friend is hoping that she will be able to reconcile with her estranged daughter, but she is nervous about the meeting and hopes that Madea's presence will make things easier. They arrive in town just in time for the Christmas carnival and find themselves surrounded by all sorts of festive accoutrements, but mayhem outweighs merriment as they discover that there is a big surprise in store for them. Even though Madea is a bit of an outsider here, she quickly adapts to her new situation enough to bring her unique brand of homespun wisdom to bear on an awkward situation.
