Picard has changed since retiring from Starfleet 14 years ago. He now lives alone in his vineyard with his cat and spends most of his time reading books about history or researching different cultures worldwide. He also has trouble dealing with people who are less sophisticated than himself because their needs do not match up with what he wants from life. One day, a mysterious young woman named Dahj arrives at his door, asking for help. She tells him she has been set to travel with him on a mission to restore peace to the galaxy. However, when she tells him that her father was once a famous explorer, Picard realizes this may be related to his past.
